PAS sets seven priorities for GE16, including wider political cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, September 4 — The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) has unveiled seven strategic priorities ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16), including a willingness to engage in political cooperation with any party, provided its principles are not compromised. PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang revealed that the party's Muslim unity agenda entails defending Islam while respecting agreements with other parties.

Hadi emphasized that unity efforts extend beyond the national level, encompassing state, constituency, and branch levels. During the opening of PAS' 72nd Annual Muktamar in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Hadi outlined the party's priorities, including safeguarding PAS' wins in the SG4 states of Kelantan, Kedah, Terengganu, and Perlis. The third priority aims to broaden PAS' electoral successes in specific states, while the fourth focuses on bolstering support among ulama, youth, Muslimat voters, and members of the Dewan Himpunan Pendukung PAS (DHPP).

The fifth priority emphasizes strengthening tarbiah and the party's organizational framework. The sixth priority centers on enhancing election machinery and information campaigns to secure victory. Hadi urged PAS members and election machinery to leverage the muktamar for self-reflection, guided by this year's theme: "Islamic Solutions for Victory."

He called for intensified unity and discipline among party members, as well as wider influence through dakwah, welfare initiatives, and efforts to unite Muslims.
