Pas membership tops 1mil as support continues to grow – Takiyuddin

KOTA BARU: The Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (Pas) now boasts more than one million members, indicating expanding support for the party, according to its secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan. The official count does not encompass non-members and overseas supporters, estimated to number over one million, which could push total backing to three or four million.

Hassan noted that individuals who were previously affiliated with Umno, other parties, or were unaffiliated, including those who were previously disinterested in politics, are now backing Pas. He highlighted that the surge in membership includes sports personalities, footballers, and artists, all of whom have joined the party.

Speaking at the Pas 75th anniversary grand ceramah held at Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan (Putik) in Pengkalan Chepa, Takiyuddin emphasized that Pas is not a newly established party. It was founded in the 1950s by previous generations, including grandparents and parents who have since passed away. He stressed that the party's Islamic-based struggle continues to be upheld to this day.
