Pas confirms talks with BN underway for Melaka polls

Kota Bharu: The National Peace Party (Pas) has announced that negotiations with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the Melaka state elections have commenced, though not yet concluded. Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang stated that the talks are ongoing and depend on the prevailing circumstances. Hadi emphasized that the matter remains fluid as the state assembly has not yet been dissolved.

When questioned about the count of seats Pas intends to contest in the Melaka polls, Hadi said the decision is pending. The state legislative assembly in Melaka is set to remain in place until further notice. Hadi also mentioned the necessity to examine the state's performance and collaborative efforts with other parties. Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi suggested that the Melaka election might be scheduled after the 2026 Umno general assembly, which is planned from September 9 to 12.

However, Zahid did not comment further on whether the polls would be held immediately post the event, stating it is Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusuf's decision.
