OSP begins probe into alleged GH¢70,000 payment linked to Parliament’s Appointments Committee

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched an initial investigation into allegations of a GH¢70,000 payment linked to Parliament’s Appointments Committee. Deputy Minority Leader and Asokwa MP Patricia Appiagyei is accused of receiving and returning the money, reportedly given to her for vetting ministerial and Supreme Court nominees.

The document, allegedly authored by Appiagyei and sent to Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, claims the funds were provided as an advance by the Majority Chief Whip for the Appointments Committee's vetting process. OSP stated that they are investigating the document's authenticity, the source of the alleged funds, and the purpose of the money.

The Office emphasized the importance of Parliament’s Appointments Committee and the need to maintain the integrity of the vetting process. The OSP has also invited Appiagyei to appear before them for assistance in the investigation, noting that they are actively looking into all allegations of extortion involving Members of Parliament.
