One Prawn & Co closing New Bahru restaurant after 2 years

One Prawn & Co, a Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded seafood restaurant in New Bahru, will close its doors on October 4 after being open for just over two years. Chef-owner Gwyneth Ang announced the news on Instagram, stating that the decision was difficult but necessary as the group continues to evolve. A statement on their website explained that they feel the chapter of One Prawn & Co has reached its natural end and that they will focus their energy on other brands within the group.

The restaurant, which began as a hawker stall specializing in Penang-style prawn noodles in 2019, was later moved to a standalone kopitiam in MacPherson. There, it earned the Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2022. In 2024, the MacPherson location was renamed Zhup Zhup, adding dishes like pao fan (cooked rice in hot broth) and claypot rice to the menu while retaining its Michelin Bib Gourmand status.

In July 2024, Ang brought the One Prawn & Co name to a fancier 82-seat restaurant in New Bahru, focusing on dry-aged seafood and wood-fired dishes. Prices at this outlet were correspondingly higher. The restaurant's menu features contemporary takes on Asian flavors, retaining nods to its prawn mee beginnings. Lunch highlights include the Prawn Bisque Ramen (S$30), while the dinner menu offers dishes like the Smoky Prawn Toast (S$18), "Typhoon Shelter" Prawn ($56), and Wood-Fired Scorched Hor Fun (S$38), all of which also feature on its seven-course Fireline dinner menu (S$98 per person, minimum two diners).
