NSMQ 2026: Inside the profiles of this year’s three grand finalists chasing glory

The 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) grand finale sees three schools with unique backgrounds competing for the coveted title. Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon), St Augustine’s College, and debutants Accra Academy are set to battle for the honor.

PRESEC-Legon, the record holders, boasts an impressive eight NSMQ victories and a 13th-place finish at the grand finale. They are also the only school to have won the NSMQ back-to-back twice. Their motto, "In Lumine Tuo Videbimus Lumen," means they aim to use their light to illuminate the path to a ninth trophy.

St Augustine’s College, the two-time champions, has made a mark in the competition with two wins in 2007 and 2019. This year, they enter the grand finale for the fifth time, having reached the finals in 2024, 2025, and 2026. Their motto, "Omnia Vincit Labour," reinforces their resolve to overcome through perseverance and clinch a third national title.

Accra Academy, making history as a debutant, enters the competition with high hopes. Known as Blɛoo, the school will play its first-ever grand finale. While they have not yet tasted victory, their journey to this stage is already a memorable one in their NSMQ history. Their motto, "Blɛoo," encapsulates their determination to make their debut unforgettable.
