NOCs mandatory for kite manufacturers ahead of Basant

LAHORE: The Lahore district administration is set to bolster safety measures for the revival of its beloved Basant festival by imposing mandatory registration and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for kite and thread manufacturers. Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain Muhammad Ali Ijaz (retd) inaugurated the Basant Portal 2027, outlining a new registration process that takes effect from September 5.

All entities involved in producing kites and related materials must secure a formal NOC through the district portal. Speaking on his official X account, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the administration’s zero-tolerance stance against lethal chemical-coated strings and unapproved kite dimensions. To ensure public safety, only 'pinna' for strings and pure cotton thread will be permitted.

Administrative teams will monitor manufacturing sites around the clock to prevent the release of hazardous materials. The comprehensive overhaul aims to restore the traditional vibrancy of Basant while prioritizing public safety. By centralising registration through a digital portal, the administration seeks transparency and accountability, allowing only verified manufacturers to operate legally.

This initiative not only safeguards lives but also aims to revive Lahore’s skyline with responsible and safe practices, harmonizing cultural expression with public welfare.
