No away fans at Old Firm matches for rest of the season, says SPFL

Glasgow's Old Firm derbies, matches between Celtic and Rangers, will not see away fans this season following previous crowd trouble. Following a Scottish Cup tie in March, dozens of arrests were made when Rangers fans stormed onto the pitch to confront Celtic supporters celebrating their team's penalty win. Both clubs were ordered to play their next Scottish Cup home tie behind closed doors and were fined £100,000 ($136,000) for the possible loss of shared gate receipts.

An independent review found that "crushing" and "life-threatening violence" were narrowly avoided. Rangers had initially suggested allowing only 300 Celtic fans to attend a League Cup match on September 13, but after the club challenged the decision, no away supporters will be permitted for the remainder of the 2026/27 season. The Scottish Professional Football Leagues announced this temporary arrangement on Friday, stating it would allow the clubs, SPFL, Police Scotland and other stakeholders to review the independent review's findings and recommendations, take necessary actions, and plan future fixtures thoroughly.
