NDLEA arrests 68 drug traffickers, seizes 7.5kg narcotics in Edo

The Kano State Special Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has denied allegations that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intends to release a luxury passenger bus seized in a major drug trafficking investigation. Task force chairman Muhuyi Magaji stated that the inquiry into the vehicle and associated suspects remains ongoing, with prosecution remaining the ultimate aim.

The NDLEA reportedly seized the bus in August during an intelligence-led operation, recovering illicit substances worth approximately N500 million. Six suspects, including Onyeka Vincent, Success Chibuzie, Nwankwo Wisdom, Emmanuel Jude, Chinedu Peter and Okodili Ogbuach, were arrested in connection with the operation. The situation prompted concerns that the bus, believed to belong to a wealthy businessman, might be released despite the ongoing investigation.

Magaji confirmed that he had contacted the Kano State NDLEA Commander, who assured him the investigation was not yet concluded. He revealed that some drivers and conductors had been questioned, and preliminary findings indicated "a level of complicity" in the case. Magaji emphasized that the ownership of the vehicle would be scrutinized as part of the investigation, arguing that individuals cannot claim they were unaware their property was used for criminal activities.

Magaji assured that the task force and the Kano State Government are closely monitoring the case, committed to pursuing it to prosecution and rejecting any form of compromise. He urged the public to await the outcome, asserting that the task force would follow the matter "to the letter," regardless of the individuals involved.
