Mechanic shot at Penang workshop, jumps cemetery fence to escape gunmen

A mechanic, aged 43, was shot multiple times at his car workshop in Jalan Sungai Lembu, Bukit Mertajam on Thursday afternoon. The assailants approached the victim in a motorcycle and opened fire, leaving him with injuries to his right palm. After the attack, the victim fled the scene, running about 50 meters before jumping over a fence opposite a Chinese cemetery to avoid the gunmen.

The incident was reported to the Kulim Police Station in Kedah, where the victim lodged a complaint and was subsequently taken to a hospital for further medical attention. Police are actively investigating the motive behind the shooting, and it has been reported that the victim had a prior criminal record. Evidence such as bullets and spent cartridge cases were recovered at the scene.

Penang Police Chief Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng confirmed the incident and stated that the force is working tirelessly to apprehend the suspect. The case will be treated as an attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
