Man returns to Kelantan for Pas Muktamar, learns cyclist brother killed in crash

KOTA BARU: Zamri Risman Mahmet, a 52-year-old private-sector worker, had just returned to Kelantan from Selangor to attend the 72nd Pas Muktamar when he learned devastating news - his younger brother, Zamrie Rismawadi, was among two cyclists killed in a tragic accident. Zamri received a call from his brother and uncle around 10:30 am, informing him of his 49-year-old brother's death in the accident.

Upon arriving at the Muktamar in Pengkalan Chepa, Zamri was informed of his brother's passing and immediately rushed to the scene where other family members were gathered. He witnessed his brother's body on the roadside, while the other victim was found in a drain. Zamri was told that his brother had been cycling with his friend at the time of the incident, with his brother in front and his friend behind.

Zamri, the second of 11 siblings, had been an avid cyclist since his teenage years. He regularly went cycling with friends, often weekly, and even planned to cycle to Thailand with his group after attending the Muktamar. He last met his brother about two months ago. Zamri returned to Kelantan as a member of Persatuan Anak Kelantan (Perakan) to meet his brother.

The crash, which occurred around 8:30 am near Km18 of the Kota Baru-Ketereh Highway, claimed the lives of Zamrie Rismawadi and another victim, Nik Zaki Yamani Nik Abdul Aziz, both 49 years old. Both died on the spot. Zamri's brother's remains will be buried at Kota Seribong Cemetery later that day.
