Lagos makes LASRRA registration compulsory for school enrolment

The Lagos State Government has made it compulsory for all learners to register with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) before enrolling in any public or private school in the state, starting from the 2026/2027 academic session. This decision was announced in a statement by Adepeju Adeyemi, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs in the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA).

Schools are required to collect and record each learner's valid LASRRA registration number as part of the admission and enrolment process from September 14, 2026. The initiative aims to establish a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners in Lagos, improving planning, monitoring, and service delivery within the education sector.

The commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, stated that this strategy would strengthen learner identification and verification, facilitate tracking, and provide government agencies with credible data for making informed decisions. Schools have been directed to include each learner's LASRRA registration number in their records and to inform parents and guardians about this requirement.

The government has assured that learners' personal information will be handled confidentially and securely, in compliance with data-protection requirements.
