KJ, Shahril question timing of charges against BN leaders

Former Umno minister Khairy Jamaluddin and information chief Shahril Hamdan have raised questions about the recent criminal charges filed against several Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders. In a recent episode of the "Keluar Sekejap" podcast, Khairy stated that while he does not oppose due process and that any wrongdoing should be investigated and prosecuted, the timing of these charges is concerning, particularly given the deteriorating relations between BN and Pakatan Harapan.

BN has also indicated that it may align with Perikatan Nasional in the upcoming general election, based on their previous cooperation in Negeri Sembilan.

Khairy elaborated that the charges against certain BN leaders, such as former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and MIC deputy president M Saravanan, are alleged to have occurred outside the past year. Shahril, a former Umno information chief, acknowledged that the public might speculate on the timing of these charges, regardless of their personal feelings regarding the politicians involved.

He suggested that if the charges had been brought forth shortly after the unity government was formed, the public would have seen it as Putrajaya taking action against corrupt politicians within the governing coalition. However, as support for the unity government wanes, people are interpreting the timing of the charges in the same way as Khairy and Shahril.
