King consents to emergency declaration in Serian as haze reaches hazardous levels

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — King Ibrahim has given his consent to declare an emergency across the Serian Division in Sarawak due to the worsening haze that has reached hazardous levels for public health and safety. The Prime Minister's Office announced the decision after considering advice from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, and other relevant agencies on the air quality situation.

This emergency declaration will enable more effective actions to safeguard the health and well-being of residents impacted by the dangerous air pollution. The government will continue to monitor the situation and ensure the timely implementation of necessary measures, including mitigation efforts and the dissemination of health information and advice to the public. The emergency declaration applies to the entire Serian Division in Sarawak.
