Jewish groups back stronger measures on Israel in letter to Andy Burnham

A letter penned by prominent Jewish civil society groups has been delivered to British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, advocating for more robust actions against Israel and opposing any further restrictions on Palestine protests. This development occurs as the Burnham administration prepares to unveil a series of new measures concerning the West Bank territories, which includes a prohibition on goods originating from unauthorized Israeli settlements.

Major British Jewish organizations, such as the Jewish Leadership Council and the Board of Deputies of British Jews, had previously cautioned against the implementation of a ban on settlement goods earlier this week. They met with Burnham at Downing Street to express their concerns. However, the UK Chief Rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis, cautioned on Monday that meeting with Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, he had conveyed his apprehensions regarding potential sanctions on Israel, emphasizing that such actions could adversely affect British Jews.
