Jalgaon: District Collector Rohan Ghuge has urged for a compassionate and sensitive approach to empower the transgender community. The administration must raise awareness about transgender rights, provide equal development opportunities and work towards a dignified life for these individuals, he stated. A day-long guidance camp for the transgender community was held by the Assistant Commissioner, Social Welfare, Jalgaon.
During the event, officials from various departments explained different government schemes, self-employment opportunities and ways to access services. Ghuge highlighted that transgender individuals should not be merely seen as beneficiaries, but rather as human beings with needs, difficulties and aspirations. He assured that the administration would extend all necessary support to economically empower them.
The camp provided information about voter ID cards, ration cards, Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana benefits, self-employment through the District Industries Centre and Udyog Aadhaar/Udyam registration process. Officials from banks and financial corporations discussed loan facilities, seed capital schemes, grants and subsidy programmes.
The participation of transgender individuals was collected to facilitate Ayushman Bharat card issuance. Concerns raised by Shamibha Patil, Co-chairperson of the Divisional Committee, included educational, employment, healthcare, housing, government scheme access and societal treatment challenges faced by the transgender community.
Patil demanded a sensitive understanding of these issues and concrete actions to resolve them, emphasizing the need for the administration to go beyond mere paper acknowledgment.
