India food safety crackdown targets company of Nepal's 'Noodle King'

India has initiated a food safety crackdown targeting a Nepali billionaire's company, notorious for its Wai Wai noodles. The investigation revealed that the factory of CG Foods India, a subsidiary of CG Corp Global led by Binod Chaudhary, used unhygienic "floor-collected, broken noodles" in their Indian snacks. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) found that the company was reprocessing floor-collected broken noodles into bhujia without heat treatment.

As a result, the regulator ordered the company to discontinue some of its products. The FSSAI seized 32,000 kg of stock and 1,925 boxes of expired finished goods from the factory, and initiated strict legal proceedings against the food business operator. Samples have been collected for further testing. This crackdown is part of an unprecedented food safety drive in India, where authorities are targeting both big and small eateries and brands such as Domino's, Pizza Hut, and Diageo for any lapses in food safety, hygiene, or labeling.
