Head Of Czech Foreign Ministry: It’s Wrong That Europe Doesn’t Have A Seat At The Peace Negotiation Table

Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka has criticized the lack of European involvement in peace negotiations aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine. This position was expressed after an informal gathering of EU foreign ministers in Ireland, as reported by UATV English. Macinka cautioned against underestimating the potential for escalation, both in relation to Ukraine and other EU member states, citing the Leipzig incident as an example.

He stressed the importance of being prepared and acting rationally should peaceful negotiations commence, citing recent discussions within the ministerial group about the absence of European representation in such talks. Macinka suggested that Europe needs to have a representative involved in these peace efforts. He also pointed out that the informal meeting did not delve into creating unified European responses to the Leipzig incident, as each country is in a distinct position regarding national security interests.

The Czech minister acknowledged that pan-European action might not be feasible at the moment due to these differences. However, he affirmed that no one is dismissing the significance of recent events in Romania, Bulgaria, and other nations. Macinka pointed out that restrictions on Russian diplomats' movements across Europe began on January 26, with Estonia implementing a stricter regime and certain hybrid regimes existing on the territories of some countries.

He admitted that the current system has certain shortcomings that require addressing, and his ministry is preparing a proposal to modify the notification system to better serve intelligence needs. Macinka mentioned that the informal meeting extended by about an hour beyond its scheduled time. He also recalled that Germany's government and relevant authorities believe Russian intelligence services were responsible for a drone sabotage attempt at Leipzig airport, prompting the Czech Foreign Ministry to summon Russia's ambassador for clarification on the incident.
