Gumel Emir’s death a profound loss to Nigeria — Shettima

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has mourned the passing of the Emir of Gumel, HRH Alhaji Dr Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, describing it as a significant loss to Jigawa State and the entire nation. The Vice-President expressed this during a condolence visit to the region, conveying the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to the late monarch's family, the Gumel Emirate Council, Governor Umar Namadi, and the people of Jigawa.

Shettima emphasized that the late Emir embodied the spirit of a generation of traditional rulers who had been instrumental in fostering peace, advancing education, driving community development, and promoting national cohesion. The monarch, who held the throne for nearly 46 years, was remembered for his unwavering stability, wisdom, and dedication to duty. He had ascended to the throne on December 16, 1980, during a period of profound political and social transformation in Nigeria.

The Vice-President highlighted the Emir's commitment to peace, education, Islamic scholarship, and peaceful coexistence throughout his reign. He referred to the late monarch as a father figure, a bridge-builder, and a stabilizing influence, lamenting the nation's loss of a repository of history, experience, and institutional memory. Shettima assured that the Federal Government would continue to acknowledge the vital role of traditional institutions in reinforcing national unity and stability.

The Vice-President prayed for the deceased, asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him a place in Aljannah Firdaus. He also called upon Allah to provide the royal family, the Emirate, and the people of Jigawa State with the fortitude to cope with their profound loss.
