Govt steps up Digital Superhighway implementation

The Kenyan government has intensified collaboration among agencies working on the Digital Superhighway, a major initiative aimed at boosting digital connectivity and supporting the nation's digital transformation. On September 4, 2026, Principal Secretaries Stephen Isaboke and John Tanui convened a multi-agency meeting to evaluate the progress, discuss challenges, and explore ways to enhance efficiency across the various agencies involved.

The Digital Superhighway encompasses a range of digital infrastructure projects, such as the expansion of the national fibre network, last-mile connectivity, and the establishment of digital hubs and public Wi-Fi hotspots. The government has set a target of growing Kenya's technology industry from $7 billion to $100 billion.
