Gov’t rallies churches to fight Ghana’s waste crisis ahead of National Sanitation Day

Ghana's government is mobilizing churches and faith-based organizations to join the fight against the nation's deteriorating waste and sanitation issues ahead of the upcoming National Sanitation Day. The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has called on religious bodies to actively participate in improving sanitation across Ghana.

Speaking at the launch of the Second Ecumenical Convention in Accra, Ayariga stressed the necessity for Ghanaians to overcome apathy and indiscipline in addressing the country's sanitation challenges. He emphasized that the government cannot solve the sanitation crisis alone and requires the collective commitment of citizens, religious organizations, traditional authorities, and other stakeholders.

Ayariga appealed to churches and faith-based organizations to utilize their influence and platforms to promote responsible sanitation practices among their members and communities. The Minister stressed that sustained national commitment to keeping the environment clean is crucial for Ghana to make meaningful progress in tackling its waste management issues.

On Saturday, September 5, Ghanaians are set to participate in the monthly National Sanitation Day exercise, which will involve a nationwide clean-up campaign and the mobilization of individuals, communities, religious organizations, local authorities, and other groups.
