Firms’ enrolment crosses 300,000 milestone

Islamabad reported that the number of registered companies in Pakistan has reached the historic milestone of 300,000, largely driven by digital registration processes. In August alone, 4,761 new companies were incorporated, marking a surge in entrepreneurial activity and confidence. The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) attributes this growth to the success of their digital transformation initiatives and streamlined facilitation systems, with an impressive 99.9% of registrations completed online through integrated federal and provincial platforms.

Approximately 99.9% of these new companies were registered through digital channels via the integrated federal and provincial systems. The total number of currently registered entities in Pakistan stands at 311,765. SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu emphasized that the rapid increase in corporate registrations underscores the public's growing trust in Pakistan's transparent and business-friendly regulatory environment, which has been bolstered by their digital transformation efforts.

In August, private companies again led in new incorporations, making up 2,762 businesses or 58.01% of the total. Single-member companies contributed 1,846 new registrations. Additionally, the SECP registered 113 limited liability partnerships, 28 not-for-profit entities, and 12 other types of companies, including public, foreign, and TO companies.

Punjab remained the leading region in business activity, accounting for 2,547 new registrations, or 53% of the total in August. Islamabad followed with 843 new companies (18%), while Sindh registered 702 new businesses (15%).

The widespread geographical distribution of these incorporations indicates that entrepreneurial ventures are flourishing across all regions of Pakistan. The Information Technology sector continues to be a major driver of corporate growth, leading the monthly registrations with 872 new business formations.
