FG Moves to Protect Nigerian Investments in Angola

The Nigerian government has pledged to safeguard investments made by Nigerians in Angola and enhance assistance for Nigerians residing and conducting business in the country. Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, made this commitment during a visit to the Cidade De Motores (City of Engines) auto spare-parts market in Luanda, a venture established by Nigerian auto parts dealers.

During her visit, Odumegwu-Ojukwu expressed satisfaction with the scale of investments made by Nigerian entrepreneurs, describing the project as a testament to the pioneering spirit of Nigerians abroad. She emphasized that the protection of Nigerian businesses in Angola would be a priority in future bilateral discussions, especially at the upcoming Nigeria-Angola Joint Commission.

President Bola Tinubu's commitment to the welfare and protection of Nigerians globally, including those in Angola, was also reaffirmed. Odumegwu-Ojukwu urged market traders to abide by Angolan laws and ensure their businesses reflect positively on Nigeria. She specifically warned against ethnic discrimination in the market's management, stressing inclusivity.

Earlier, the President of the United Auto Parts Dealers Association, Chuks Ukachi, thanked the minister for her visit. Ukachi explained that the market was established after Nigerian traders were barred from operating along the roadside by Angolan authorities, leaving many without businesses for nearly two years. The association opened the facility to both Nigerians and Angolans, describing it as an initiative to create business opportunities and project a positive image of Nigeria in Angola.

Ukachi appealed to the Nigerian government to support the security of the market and protect the substantial investments made by Nigerian entrepreneurs in Angola.
