Ferry carrying 38 people breaks down near Mumbai’s Gateway of India

Mumbai witnessed a ferry breakdown near the famed Gateway of India on Thursday evening, leaving 38 individuals stranded at sea. The vessel, the Anwari ferry, was carrying 34 passengers and four crew members when it encountered a technical issue around 8:30 pm while returning to its home base.

The passengers and crew were not left to their fate for long. The Mumbai Police, upon receiving a report of the incident, immediately launched a rescue operation. They collaborated with another ferry operator to ensure the safe return of everyone on board. Another ferry was dispatched to the location and swiftly reached the stranded vessel. A rescue boat then towed the Anwari ferry back towards the Gateway of India jetty.

Remarkably, no injuries or other untoward incidents were reported during this ordeal. The coordinated efforts between the authorities, nearby ferry operator, and rescue team were instrumental in ensuring the safe return of all stranded individuals. The incident, though unexpected, ended without any casualties, with all 38 people making it back to the Gateway of India safely. The authorities are now set to investigate the exact cause of the technical breakdown that led to the ferry's malfunction.
