Falconets in Katowice, Countenance Opening Match against Spain

Nigeria’s U20 Women’s National Team, dubbed the Falconets, have completed their final preparations in Trzebnica ahead of their debut in the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, which is set to begin in Poland on Saturday. The team, under the leadership of Head Coach Moses Aduku, spent ten days in Trzebnica honing their tactical organization, technical execution, physical conditioning, and team cohesion. This period also allowed the players to adapt to the Polish environment and sharpen their match readiness.

The Falconets showcased their prowess in two international friendly matches against quality opposition. They emerged victorious in a 1-0 win over hosts Poland last Friday, with Mary Mamudu scoring the crucial goal in the first half. The team then drew 1-1 with Korea Republic in their final warm-up match on Tuesday, with Mamudu again being the goalscorer.

These matches afforded the technical crew an opportunity to evaluate the team’s performance against diverse opposition and further acclimatize the players to the World Cup’s pace and intensity.

With the Trzebnica phase concluded, the Falconets will focus on Katowice, where they will be based ahead of their opening Group F fixture against Spain on Monday. Nigeria is part of Group F alongside Spain, China PR, and New Caledonia. Following their match against Spain on Monday, the team will face China PR on September 10th and New Caledonia on September 13th.
