Explosion as Boko Haram targets Convoy of APC Gov’ship Candidate in Borno

The convoy of APC governorship candidate Mustapha Gubio in Borno State was attacked by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Thursday evening. It was reported that the insurgents had planted landmines along the Gubio-Kareto-Damasak highway, which the candidate and his team were traveling on after a thank-you visit to Damasak. The police armoured vehicle leading the convoy accidentally triggered the blast when it ran over one of the explosive devices.

As the terrorists attempted to ambush the convoy, security operatives from the military, police, and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) swiftly engaged the attackers in a fierce gunfight. The police armoured vehicle suffered severe damage from the bomb blast, but the main convoy was successfully repelled and no further casualties were reported.

The Gubio-Kareto-Damasak corridor has long been a hotspot for terrorist activity due to its strategic importance for Boko Haram's logistics and movement. This ambush highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by political figures and campaigns in Borno State, reminiscent of past political violence in the region.
