Ex-journalist booked under NSA plans to move Allahabad High Court after relief to co-accused

Former journalist Satyam Verma, 60, who was booked under the National Security Act (NSA) following a protest in Noida, has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court to withdraw his challenge to his detention. Verma's counsel announced that the appeal was mentioned orally before the court on Thursday, and the matter is set to be heard on Monday.

The Supreme Court is expected to hear the application on Monday, following the Allahabad High Court's decision to quash the detention of another accused, Akriti Chaudhary, under the NSA. The bench of Justices Atul Sreedharan and Achal Sachdev made the order, though the fine print is yet to be released. Verma was booked on May 13 after the police alleged that he masterminded the protests, writing "pseudowriting" that incited the new generation to join a rebel organization, and was the publisher and writer of the "Mazdoor Bigul" newspaper.

The police cited the Noida Phase 2 police station in-charge's report in their order to impose the NSA.
