Divorce your husbands if they stop you from voting APC — Yobe party chairman

The Yobe State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Mohammed Gadaka, has suggested that married women should divorce their husbands if they are opposed to voting for the APC in the upcoming general elections. This statement was made during a meeting in Nangere town, where Gadaka welcomed numerous party defectors. He offered to pay the "new bride price" for any woman who left her marriage for the sake of party loyalty.

However, the comment ignited widespread outrage, with many residents, including Islamic scholars, criticizing it as reckless, provocative, and detrimental to family values. In response to the backlash, Gadaka posted a 42-second video on the Facebook page of the Governor's Press and Media Affairs Director, retracting his statement.

He claimed that his remark was merely a "joking banter," stemming from the long-standing rivalry between his Ngamo people and the Kare-Kare-speaking people. Gadaka apologized for his words and withdrew the comment, asserting it did not reflect his actual beliefs or intent to promote divorce among married individuals.
