Denkyirahemaa mad at the police

Nana Ama Ayensua Saara III, the Queen mother of Denkyira, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to order his officers and men in the Dunkwa jurisdiction to maintain peace. She has also urged the President to take action to ensure peace prevails in the Denkyira region. The Queen mother is frustrated as she believes the police were responsible for the unrest that occurred during the Akwasidae celebration last Sunday.

According to Nana Ayensua Saara, the police allegedly blocked a path to prevent the Omanhene's elders from performing rituals at Offin River to mark the Akwasidae. She accuses the police of taking sides in the dispute between the Denkyirahene and the Dunkwahene, and suggests that those who oppose the Denkyirahene should relocate to their original places.

The Queen mother had previously denounced her trust in the police after they arrested a self-styled Mfuomhene, whom she considered an imposter. She locked him up at the Amponsem Palace, stating that impersonating the Mfuomhene was disrespectful and sacrilegious. The Denkyirahemaa criticized the Regional Police Commander for dictating to the Denkyirahene regarding chieftaincy matters and criticized the Regional Security Council's directive banning the installation of new chiefs in the area.

Despite the violence, she expressed relief that no one was injured and threatened to call for the Denkyirahene's intervention if the situation escalated further. She addressed the MP and MCE present at the forum, urging them to recognize the police's partiality and the ensuing chaos, and called on the IGP and President to take appropriate action.
