Death Certificate Of Former Cop Ashwini Bidre-Gore Issued After Months Of Delay Following Court Order

Navi Mumbai: After enduring months of frustration and multiple visits to the Panvel Municipal Corporation, the death certificate of former assistant police inspector Ashwini Bidre-Gore was finally granted to her family on Friday. The issuance of the vital document came after a protracted dispute over the registration of Bidre’s death, which had been deemed homicidal by the Additional Sessions Court, Panvel.

Her husband, Raju Gore, had been persistently pushing the civic administration for the certificate, as its absence hindered their daughter Suchi from accessing essential government and service-related benefits, as well as pursuing higher education.

The Additional Sessions Court, Panvel, delivered its judgment on April 21, 2025, ruling that Bidre had lost her life to homicide on April 11, 2016. Following this decision, Panvel Executive Magistrate and Tehsildar Minal Bhamare-Bhosale issued an order on July 31, 2026, mandating the Panvel Municipal Corporation’s birth and death registration department to register Bidre’s death in the 2016-17 register and promptly provide the death certificate to the applicant.

Despite receiving the order and supporting documents, Gore expressed disappointment at the delay in issuing the certificate. He had submitted the Tehsildar’s order, court judgment, police reports, and over 400 pages of evidence to the municipal corporation, while making two trips from Kolhapur to Panvel to follow up with civic officials. Gore questioned the administration's handling of the matter, especially considering the court's already established evidence of Bidre’s homicidal death.

"Gore finally received the death certificate today after a long wait and significant effort," Gore expressed relief. The murder of Bidre had sparked widespread outrage across Maharashtra, with the Additional Sessions Court subsequently sentencing dismissed police inspector Abhay Kurundkar and other accused to life imprisonment. The police department has acknowledged the circumstances surrounding Bidre’s murder.

Now that the death certificate has been issued, the immediate administrative obstacle for Bidre’s family in officially recording her death and accessing linked documents and benefits has been resolved.
