Dampier and Parker star in No. 21 Utah’s first opener without Whittingham in 21 years

Devon Dampier led Utah to a dominant 66-14 victory over Idaho, throwing for three touchdowns and scrambling for another score. Freshman Wayshawn Parker had a historic performance, scoring the first three touchdowns of his career. This marked the first time Utah opened a season without former head coach Kyle Whittingham in 21 years, as he moved to Michigan.

Dampier, who battled injuries last season, was accurate and efficient, while Parker showcased his dual-threat abilities on both offense and defense. Backup quarterback Byrd Ficklin contributed with 93 passing yards and two touchdowns, along with a 70-yard rushing performance. Idaho's Hayden Kincheloe managed to rush for 37 yards and a touchdown, but the Utes' defense held firm, allowing only 225 total yards. The game served as Utah's most dominant win in their storied 29-game rivalry with Idaho.
