Coup plot: Innocent suspects will be released after investigation — Defence minister

Defence Minister Christopher Musa has announced that certain suspects accused of plotting a coup against President Bola Tinubu may be released if investigations determine they have no case to answer. During an interview on Thursday, Musa stated that those found not guilty following investigations would be released while those with serious allegations will face prosecution.

The Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring that innocent individuals are not wrongfully implicated, stating that only the main instigators of the plot would be prosecuted. He further explained that the Department of State Services and the National Intelligence Agency are continuing their investigation, and some suspects have already been taken to court, with the matter now being handled by the courts.

Musa described the alleged plotters as "a bunch of misguided individuals" and suggested that their motivation was nostalgia for past military regimes rather than political motives. He also noted that some suspects are still at large.
