CISF Foils Gold & Foreign Currency Smuggling Attempt At Mumbai Airport

Mumbai's Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) successfully thwarted an attempt involving the smuggling of gold and foreign currency at the city's airport. The gold was cunningly hidden within the seams of the legs of the jeans worn by a domestic departure passenger en route to Jodhpur from Mumbai. During routine security checks, CISF officers detected gold in the form of a paste, concealed in the stitching of the jeans, totaling 430 grams, valued at around Rs 60.91 lakh.

The passenger, who had just arrived from Dubai on the same day, was subsequently handed over to Customs for further legal proceedings.

In addition to the gold smuggling attempt, CISF personnel also intercepted attempts to smuggle foreign currency. Two separate cases were uncovered during Pre-Embarkation Security Checks at the airport. In the first incident, a female passenger headed to Dubai was discovered carrying USD 45,000 (roughly Rs 42.82 lakh). This sum comprised USD 30,000 cleverly concealed under her knee using adhesive tape, and the remaining USD 15,000 stashed in her hand baggage.

The second case involved another female passenger bound for Ras Al-Khaimah, UAE, who was carrying USD 30,000 and 3,800 UAE Dirham, equivalent to about Rs 29.40 lakh, all stashed in her hand baggage.

Both passengers, along with the detected foreign currency, were transferred to the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs for subsequent necessary action.
