Chief Justice's call for Ghanaians to back Mahama's agenda not partisan — NHIA Deputy CEO

Attempts to transform the Chief Justice's call for national building into partisan politics are seen as mischievous, hypocritical and unpatriotic. Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie stated that John Dramani Mahama's agenda, which he believes will benefit Ghana, should be supported. This statement is entirely correct because the success of the President is ultimately the success of Ghana.

If Mahama's initiatives to reset Ghana, combat corruption, generate jobs and stabilize the economy are successful, it will positively impact all citizens, including those who support the opposing New Patriotic Party (NPP). The Chief Justice's role includes exercising freedom of speech and voicing opinions on matters of national interest, as granted by the Constitution.

Condemning him for urging collective support for a national agenda is unjustified and disloyal. The judicial oath does not compel judges to remain silent on national development; it only mandates impartiality towards cases before them. International Chief Justices are known to comment on national progress, thereby setting an example for the Chief Justice.

The hypocrisy surrounding this issue is evident, as past Chief Justices made similar calls for support for government programs during other administrations without facing criticism. The hypocrisy is further compounded by the fact that similar calls were met with silence during those times. Therefore, it is only fair to urge all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, to support President Mahama's reset agenda for the betterment of Ghana.
