Canucks sign defenseman Zeev Buium to an 8-year contract extension

The Vancouver Canucks have extended defenseman Zeev Buium's contract for an additional eight seasons, with a salary of $9.38 million per season. This extension was announced on Friday, providing Buium with a substantial financial commitment from the team.

Buium, who is 20 years old, played a significant role offensively during the 2022-2023 season. He scored three goals and provided nine assists in 45 games with the Canucks. The defenseman was acquired from the Minnesota Wild in December, as part of a trade that sent Quinn Hughes to the Wild.

Buium has accumulated a total of six goals and 20 assists in 76 NHL games, both with the Wild and the Canucks. His journey to the NHL began when he was drafted 12th overall by the Minnesota Wild in 2024. Prior to that, Buium helped Denver win the NCAA championship in 2023.
