Cal Quantrill continues strong run, Corey Seager homers as Rangers blank Rays 6-0

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Cal Quantrill, with a 1.25 ERA over eight outings since July 28, outdid the Tampa Bay Rays 6-0 on Thursday night. Quantrill struck out two and walked two in seven innings, while Corey Seager added a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Seager's blast followed Ezequiel Duran's right field drive that scored Logan O’Hoppe.

Jakob Junis and Chase Silseth completed the shutout, Texas' 13th this season. Seager has hit balls to the warning track in left and center in previous outings. The Rangers, currently at 70-71, are one-half game behind Cleveland for the AL's final wild-card spot. Tampa Bay's Shane McClanahan allowed four runs in five innings, his first time not making it through six innings since July 8.

The Rays had matched a season low in hits, suffering their eighth shutout of the season. Texas took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Wyatt Langford doubled and scored on Justin Foscue's single. The Rangers extended their lead in the eighth when Evan Carter tripled home Langford and Jake Burger's sacrifice fly scored a run. The Rays have lost 10 consecutive games at Globe Life Field, with their last win at the park coming on June 2, 2022.

The next matchup will feature Rays RHP Nick Martinez (13-4, 2.99 ERA), who previously played for Texas, against Rangers RHP Kumar Rocker (5-10, 4.44).
