Ball says 'difficult' change needed at Torquay

Torquay United manager Jimmy Ball has called for significant changes within the club to help it avoid another 12-year wait to return to the English Football League. The Gulls currently sit 19th in the National League South after winning only one of their opening six games, following a 2-0 loss to Farnham Town on Bank Holiday Monday. Ball attributes the team's struggles to a significant amount of disruption during the summer transfer window, caused by players being lured away by other clubs.

Ball urged all of his players to give their all and commit fully to the club, emphasizing that Torquay must be prepared to make sacrifices for success. Despite the disappointments of the recent seasons, Ball acknowledged that the club had been close to promotion in the past two years, but ultimately failed to progress. He admitted that change has been difficult and slower than desired, but stressed that it is necessary for Torquay's future.

When asked about the fans' concerns regarding the slow start, Ball advised against panicking, as it would not be beneficial. Instead, he emphasized the importance of a strong and committed team out on the pitch. Torquay United will face third-placed Folkestone Invicta, who have gone unbeaten in their opening five matches, at Plainmoor on Saturday.
