After Paris gold and a gender row, Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting fights on to prove her doubters wrong

Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting, who won gold at the Paris Olympics, has decided to continue her boxing career despite facing doubts and controversy over her eligibility. The controversy arose when the International Boxing Association (IBA) disqualified Lin and her opponent, Imane Khelif of Algeria, from the 2023 world championships due to unspecified gender eligibility tests.

However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed them to compete in Paris, stating they were victims of an "arbitrary decision" by the IBA. Lin, who is 30, considered retiring after her victory but wanted to prove her doubters wrong. She told AFP that quitting would have let down her team. Lin is now pursuing a second consecutive Asian Games gold in the 60kg category, having stepped up a weight class.

She has already won bronze at the Asian Elite Championships in Mongolia and silver at the World Boxing Cup in China. Lin's coach, Tseng Tzu-chiang, praised her for her "absolute clarity and determination" in pursuing her goals.
