After Nepal disaster, Sikkim faces flood risk; 40-high risk glacial lakes identified

Thai authorities have apprehended a South Korean man, identified as Mr. Lim, who is accused of being a high-ranking member of the "Lucky Nine" investment fraud network, according to police reports. The network is alleged to have scammed over 100 victims out of a total of 10 billion won, approximately 250 million baht.

Mr. Lim entered Thailand illegally and was on a 90-day visa which had since expired. According to police, he had been moving between accommodations in Phuket to evade detection, eventually hiding in a luxury condominium in Nonthaburi province. Thai immigration officers, working in coordination with the Immigration Bureau’s Investigation Division 2, located and apprehended Mr. Lim, who admitted to overstaying his visa by 260 days and being wanted under a South Korean arrest warrant and an Interpol notice.

During the arrest, police discovered his belongings, including three mobile phones, two credit cards, one tablet, and other valuables. These items were seized as they could potentially be used in crimes or obtained through criminal activity. The suspect will be handed over to South Korean authorities for further investigations into other members of the alleged network who may have fled to Thailand.

Thai Deputy Commissioner Pol Maj Gen Phanthana Nuchanart emphasized that the operation was a part of broader efforts to strengthen cooperation with security agencies both domestically and internationally, and that Thailand would not become a sanctuary for fugitives or transnational criminals.
