ADC chieftain urges INEC to ensure fairness in Kogi ward creation

Usman Okai, a representative of the African Democratic Congress, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a fair and equitable approach in the current reconfiguration of electoral wards in Kogi State. In a statement released on Friday, Okai emphasized the importance of adhering to established legal and administrative guidelines in the process, taking into account factors like population density and geographical size.

He stressed the need to fairly represent the interests of all three senatorial districts, with special attention to Kogi East, the most populous region and largest landmass in the state. Okai urged INEC to approach the exercise impartially and to avoid any situation that could disadvantage a senatorial district. He also appealed to stakeholders across the senatorial districts to support a transparent and balanced process, stating that the outcome should promote unity and fairness across the state.

Okai further urged INEC leadership to act as impartial public servants for the entire state, rather than favoring a specific zone. He also called for a thorough review of the proposed ward-creation arrangement before its implementation, reminding INEC leadership of the commission's role in maintaining confidence in the electoral process and fostering unity among Kogi State's population.

Kogi State is divided into three senatorial districts: Kogi East, Kogi Central, and Kogi West, each containing various local government areas and electoral wards.
