This scheme, worth ₹60,000 crore, aims to modernize 1,000 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the country. The Minister met with industry representatives to discuss their potential participation in the scheme's implementation.
The PM-SETU scheme operates on a hub-and-spoke model, with four ITIs attached to each hub. Currently, 12 hubs have been identified across Karnataka, with 48 ITIs in total. Bengaluru Urban and Kalaburagi districts have been selected as the first hubs. Peenya ITI in Bengaluru Urban, with Tumakuru Road, Domlur, Hosur Road, and Devanahalli ITIs as spoke institutions, will serve as the hub for the former.
Similarly, Kalaburagi Government ITI for Boys, with ITIs at Sedam, Afzalpur, Jewargi, and Kalaburagi Government ITI for Women as spoke institutions, will be the hub for the latter.
A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will oversee the implementation of the scheme, with six industry representatives as members. Companies' CSR divisions, foundations, and other entities can also participate. Companies with an annual turnover of at least ₹500 crore and more than 1,000 employees would be eligible to join the scheme.
The Union government, State government, and the industrial sector will contribute ₹112 crore, ₹98 crore, and ₹31 crore, respectively, towards the scheme. There are 270 government ITIs in Karnataka, and the Minister suggested that industries could adopt these ITIs if they wish.
