Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings takes over Environment Ministry

Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has officially taken on the role of Environment Minister, succeeding Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah. Armah-Kofi Buah fulfilled this caretaker position following the passing of the previous substantive minister, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. During the handover ceremony, Agyeman-Rawlings emphasized the importance of striking a balance between Ghana's development aspirations and environmental protection.

She stressed that science, technology, and innovation should work in tandem and not compromise environmental sustainability. "Science, technology and innovation are meant to work hand in hand. As we look towards our development, it must not be at the expense of our environment," she stated. Agyeman-Rawlings also called upon both citizens and the government to share in the responsibility of safeguarding the environment.

She reminded the public that the 1992 Constitution holds both the state and its citizens accountable for protecting Ghana's environment. "Our Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, is clear about the fact that both government and citizens have a responsibility to protect our environment. We have a duty not only to work together, to collaborate, to bring ideas together, to make sure the Ministry achieves its objectives, but also to help raise awareness among the citizenry regarding their responsibilities," she added.

Agyeman-Rawlings pledged to cooperate closely with the ministry's officials and staff to achieve its goals. She highlighted collaboration as essential to fulfilling the ministry's mandate, bolstering efforts to protect Ghana's environment, and promoting national development.
