Zahid is all for earlier GE16

Umno president Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed his support for holding the 16th General Election (GE16) earlier, hoping to secure the people's mandate. The Umno leader, also the chairman of Barisan Nasional, acknowledged that the coalition was prepared to face the polls even if Parliament served its full term. Zahid stated that the earlier the election, the better, as it would allow the government to seek a fresh mandate.

Despite the speculation surrounding the earlier GE16, Zahid reminded that the 15th Parliament would complete its full term on Dec 18 next year. However, he emphasized that the coalition should use the remaining period before GE16 to address the issues affecting the people and ensure Umno and BN remain relevant in the current political landscape. He also advised that the party should adopt a combination of strategies rather than relying on a single formula.

Zahid stressed that the coalition's success depended on regaining dominance in the seats they once held and strengthening "Rumah Umno." He dismissed claims that the National Front (BN) had become arrogant, attributing such perceptions to those who were becoming weaker. Instead, he attributed the coalition's recent political gains to patience and proper organization. Zahid also noted that younger people, particularly those below 40, were showing increased interest in joining Umno and BN.
