Zack Polanski says he intends to stand in by-election to replace Keir Starmer

Green Party leader Zack Polanski has expressed his intention to stand in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election, following Sir Keir Starmer's resignation from Parliament. Polanski, a member of the London Assembly, announced his hope to contest the seat in an interview with the Camden New Journal. His potential candidacy could provide an early test of Labour candidate Andy Burnham's popularity among voters in the constituency, as support for Labour has waned in recent years.

Polanski, who has lived and worked in the community, stated he is excited about the prospect of representing the area in Parliament. The by-election was triggered by Starmer's decision to step down as an MP, despite previously insisting he would remain in the role until the next general election. He was subsequently appointed to the position of "steward and bailiff of the Three Hundreds of Chiltern."

Polanski believes the Greens can win the seat and believes that electing him will ensure someone who will always fight for the people's corner, free from influence from big donors or party discipline. He criticized Labour for prioritizing corporations and big money over constituents' needs, promising to be a strong advocate for those struggling to make ends meet.

The Greens are expected to pose the greatest challenge to Labour in the by-election, having made significant gains in recent local elections. Meanwhile, the Conservatives have pledged to field their own candidate in the contest.
