World's first PTZ cameras with a global shutter launched by Panasonic – rolling shutter be gone?

Panasonic has unveiled two cutting-edge PTZ cameras, the AW-UE200 and AW-UER200, which mark the first of their kind to feature a global shutter MOS sensor. This innovative sensor, measuring 1.2-inches, boasts the ability to deliver 5K oversampling. Panasonic emphasizes that the global shutter technology, which captures the entire frame simultaneously as opposed to scanning it line by line, renders the cameras exceptionally suitable for sports and action broadcasting.

By eliminating motion distortion, the new PTZ cameras ensure a more fluid and accurate representation of fast-paced events.

Beyond enhanced real-time capture, Panasonic's latest PTZ cameras also prove advantageous in settings with variable lighting conditions, such as gig performances or adaptable studios. The global shutter aids in producing a more natural-looking output, as it mitigates the rolling shutter artifact that often plagues traditional cameras when dealing with changing light sources.

Equipped with impressive specifications, the AW-UE200 and AW-UER200 cameras deliver an extensive zoom range of 22x, from 22.5–500mm in 35mm film equivalent terms. Notable features also include a rapid zoom adjustment, capable of completing its full range in as little as half a second or extended up to 180 seconds for slower, more controlled motion. Furthermore, the cameras can rotate at a speed of 400 degrees per second, and a roll mechanism allows for a range of movement from –200° to +200°.

To simplify setup procedures, particularly in challenging environments, the cameras incorporate one-touch levelling functionality. With a simple command via the remote controller, users can easily align the camera on robotic mounts or navigate its positioning in spaces with angled ceilings.

Additionally, the cameras support both the open IP standard adhering to SMPTE ST 2110 and the popular Dante® system, ensuring seamless integration for low-latency audio delivery over networks. These advanced connectivity features will be demonstrated at the upcoming International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) exhibition, slated to commence in February 2027 (for AW-UE200W/K variants) and Q2 2027 for the AW-UER200W/K roll models.

The IP Protocol editions will carry an additional "10" in their model numbers (e.g., AW-UE210W/K), distinguishing them from their predecessors.
