Why Was Santosh Pandit Arrested? Here’s What We Know About Pune Police Action

Pune-based social media influencer Santosh Pandit was arrested early Thursday morning under allegations of uploading and circulating objectionable and defamatory content on social media. The Kothrud Police registered a case based on a complaint received at 1:28 am, an alleged incident involving Maharashtra minister Chandrakant Patil and a woman corporator.

Police Inspector Anil Shivaji Mane is leading the Kothrud case. However, the exact reason for his arrest remains unclear as of now. Nationalist Congress Party spokesperson Anish Gawande alleged that Pandit was taken into custody without prior notice of appearance, questioning the arrest procedure under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

He also questioned the invocation of provisions related to sexual harassment and obscene electronic content. Pandit has been previously booked in connection with an alleged objectionable video involving Patil and a woman corporator. He is also facing a separate case over alleged remarks against Patil, with charges including section 356, 296, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation into the Kothrud case is ongoing.
