A spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has addressed the controversy surrounding a video showing the candidate sitting on a student's lap. The campaign team clarified that the situation arose due to a lack of seating available during a meeting with students from The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

During the gathering, Alli requested permission for one of the students to sit on his lap so that the interview could continue uninterrupted. The campaign emphasized that this was a spontaneous and fatherly action, not intended to be inappropriate. They expressed disappointment with the way some online platforms have attempted to sexualize the interaction, labeling these interpretations as misleading and politically motivated.

The spokesperson urged the public to disregard such false narratives and emphasized that Senator Alli has a genuine and fatherly relationship with young people. They called for responsible reporting and urged the public to focus on the 2027 gubernatorial election in Oyo State based on ideas, competence, development, and the welfare of residents.
