We have stabilised the present; now we must secure the future – Deputy Finance Minister

Ghana's Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, emphasizes the need to build upon the nation's regained macroeconomic stability in order to foster a productive, competitive, and resilient economy over the next decade. In remarks made during the Business Roundtable Extended 2026 Executive Dialogue in Accra, on behalf of Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Mr Ampem stressed that the country must shift its focus from rectifying past economic issues to expanding production, attracting investments, and generating sustainable employment opportunities.

The conference, organized by Ishmael Yamson & Associates and themed "After the Corrections: Building Resilient Economic Pillars for the Next Decade," highlighted the importance of robust economic buffers, increased productivity, effective institutions, inclusive growth, and a thriving private sector in safeguarding the economy against future challenges.

Mr Ampem also stressed the necessity of fostering deeper value addition, enhancing domestic production, and strengthening linkages between agriculture, industry, technology, and skills development. He further advocated for a renewed partnership between the government and the private sector, wherein the government would provide macroeconomic stability, infrastructure, effective regulation, and fiscal discipline, while businesses would contribute through increased investment, innovation, productivity, exports, and job creation.
