Vodafone TV is a streamer and cloud gaming console all in one, and it’s launching soon as a Sky rival

Vodafone is set to launch Vodafone TV next month as a combined streaming service and gaming console, aiming to rival Sky's offerings. The new service will provide access to Freely—a free streaming platform with over 70 live channels and thousands of on-demand hours—as well as Netflix Standard and HBO Max Standard with ads. It also includes a selection of Android TV apps for additional content.

In addition to streaming, Vodafone TV will offer over 300 cloud games compatible with a Bluetooth controller or smartphone. Users can also rent and purchase films via Vodafone Box Office, with a companion app enabling seamless continuation of viewing sessions across devices.

Hardware-wise, the Vodafone TV hub features 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and 4K, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos support. Pricing details are yet to be announced, but the launch aligns with Vodafone's SuperMobile plan, promising up to 4x faster speeds and minimum speeds of 15Mbps.

Telecoms expert Ernest Doku from Uswitch highlights Vodafone TV's focus on content convenience, integrating subscriptions, live channels, and billing into a single platform with a mobile app for on-the-go use. As the first UK mobile network bundling TV with mobile plans, Vodafone aims to attract millions of households that opt out of broadband services. However, he advises customers to carefully evaluate all aspects before subscribing, keeping in mind potential add-ons and mid-contract price increases.
