Defense: Pistorius Meets Hegseth in Washington – Starting Point for New Billion-Dollar Deals?
A meeting is to be made up in September, which had failed in May. It will probably not be without tension, but it could also be about new orders.
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius is set to meet his US counterpart Pete Hegseth in Washington on September 15. The meeting comes after a previous attempt was cancelled, and will likely focus on issues including the Ukraine conflict and Iran. Pistorius will also attend the rollout of the first F-35 fighter jet for the German military, ordered by the Luftwaffe, on September 18 in Fort Worth, Texas.
The two ministers have previously met in Brussels and Ankara, but their relationship has been strained, with Hegseth criticizing European NATO allies for not doing enough for the alliance. Germany is also expected to discuss purchasing Tomahawk missiles and potentially additional F-35 jets from the US.
